Tremaine Emory founded Denim Tears to tell the story of the African diaspora through clothing, and the wreath of cotton plants is his most direct statement. It recalls the crop on which American slavery was built and reclaims it as a symbol of remembrance and pride.

Here the wreath sits on a black hooded sweatshirt in a cotton blend, a quiet ground that lets the design speak for itself. Wear it with dark denim and clean leather trainers at the weekend, or beneath a wool overcoat once the temperature drops. It is the piece most people picture when they hear the name Denim Tears, and it remains the most recognisable introduction to the label.
