Alexandre Mattiussi founded AMI in Paris in 2011, and the name says a good deal about the house: ami is French for friend. The Ami de Coeur emblem, a heart set above a capital A, has since become one of the most recognisable signatures in contemporary Parisian menswear. Here it appears as embroidery on a clean black crewneck.
The appeal lies in its restraint. Made from premium cotton, this is the sweatshirt one reaches for on a Saturday morning with tailored trousers and loafers, or layers beneath a camel overcoat when the weather turns.
