The Birkin began on a flight from Paris to London in 1984, when Jane Birkin told Jean-Louis Dumas that she could never find a bag big enough for everything she carried. Hermès has made it by hand ever since, and the 25 is the size most clients ask for first: small enough to carry every day, with room for a phone, wallet, keys and sunglasses.

This one is in black Togo, the house's grained calfskin, which holds its shape and copes well with daily use. Gold hardware warms the black and catches the light on the turn-lock, so it looks as right with a navy coat in the week as with denim at the weekend.

It carries a G stamp and is brand new, supplied as a full set with the protective felt still on the handles and flap. Like every Hermès piece we sell, it is checked by our team and comes with a Bababebi authentication certificate.

Once we have received and checked the item, we will refund you, including the original standard delivery charge, to your original payment method within 14 days. Return postage is at your cost unless the item is faulty or not as described. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Every piece is inspected by our team when it arrives with us and again before it is dispatched. We check the leather, stitching, hardware, stamps and codes against the house's own standards, along with the condition and any box, dust bag and receipt that accompany it.
